We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Human Factors ("HF") and User Experience (UE) Design Practitioner. Our clients include companies in the areas of high-tech consumer electronics, telecommunication, medical devices and health-related fields, ground transportation, financial services, software and web development, and consumer products.
A well-rounded practitioner will work closely with clients to infuse human factors and user interface design principles into products, devices, and systems being designed. In addition, s/he will conduct competitive analyses, heuristic analyses, and formative and summative usability testing of various soft and hard interfaces.
This position requires a trained, experienced HF Engineer, HF Specialist, User Experience Specialist, or similar who is a self-motivated practitioner with excellent time management skills, excellent design skills, and strong presentation skills. Some travel is an exciting part of this position and experience with consulting is a plus. Experience in mobile phone UI design is a strong plus.
JOB LEVEL DUTIES
Job duties include working closely with HumanCentric and client teams by:
- Providing expertise and support to development teams during creation of user interfaces.
- Rapidly, iteratively, and flexibly creating:
- Flow charts of task flows or information architecture
- Design schematics
- Wire-frames of designs
- Paper and Interactive prototypes
- User Interface Specifications
- Usability test protocols and moderation
- Driving usability evaluation efforts, when applicable, with the goal of analyzing and translating usability evaluation outcomes into design improvements.
- Understanding product requirements and user's goals and objectives.
- Conceptualizing and creating user interface specifications that meet the product requirements of both clients and the clients' customers. Products must meet user, technical, and creative expectations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The Human Factors Practitioner candidate should have:
- 3+ years of relevant, on-the-job experience with a Bachelor's degree is a plus
- Confidence in one's capability and a strong commitment to excellence and professionalism.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience working on a variety of soft and hard interface types.
- The ability to work on more than one project at a time.
- A willingness to embrace new technologies in an ever-changing technological environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills allowing them to effectively communicate complex specifications.
- Solid experience with user research, requirement gathering, and information architecture.
- Experience planning and conducting usability tests.
- Willingness to work with teams often located in remote geographical locations and time zones.
The Ideal Candidate should have:
- An advanced degree in HCI, Human Factors, or closely related discipline .
- 3+ years of experience is a plus
- A working understanding of HCI processes, techniques, and deliverables.
- Competency with UI design Standards, Needs Assessments, Heuristic analyses/Expert Review, Paper Prototyping and Wireframing, and Statistical Analyses.
- Solid experience with user research, requirement gathering, and information architecture.
- Strong analytical skills permitting the understanding of complex concepts and production of complex specifications.
- Willingness to start with HumanCentric as "temp-to-perm"
