Purpose of the Role

Hotels.com EMEA is looking to hire an Interaction Designer to join our team on a full time basis. The role will work within the Hotels.com Operations team to distill user research and business objectives/requirements into functional and interface specifications/prototypes.

All candidates must provide examples of work with CVs demonstrating an ability to distill knowledge, generate ideas, problem solve and arrive at a solution. Ideally, you will be able to defend your designs with business metrics or other quantitative / qualitative data.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Establish an understanding of Hotels.com EMEA users in regards to their goals, behaviors and attitudes
  • Work with cross-functional teams to specify and design new/improved functionality.
  • Develop conceptual models of user behavior and interaction
  • Create site maps, user flows, scenarios, storyboards, use cases, wire frames, varied fidelity prototypes as needed to support design of the current site or future projects.
  • Work closely with the development team, assisting with the implementation of designs, where appropriate.
  • Represent our users and establish interaction design standards for projects and ongoing enhancements to the Hotels.com EMEA websites
  • Document current and improve and document current working practices, products and technologies
  • Evangelize competence and benefits of a user-centric approach to design within Hotels.com EMEA
  • Coordinate or execute user research efforts (interviews, usability testing, surveys, etc.) as needed. If you have the skills to conduct design research, great. If not, you need to know how to use it to drive/validate your design process
  • Rationalize design decisions to stakeholders and peers
  • Provide recommendations on ongoing product strategy based on qualitative and quantitative data
  • High-level project management of User Experience-driven projects

Skills and Experience

  • Enthusiasm for IxD, UX, and IA
  • Outstanding conceptual design skills
  • Amazing attention to detail
  • Degree-level or three to five years of equivalent experience, specializing in design, library sciences, human-computer interaction, or psychology.
  • Understanding of the product lifecycle (Evaluation/Requirements gathering, specification/design, implementation) and its deliverables
  • Technical grounding in a range of internet tools and their application.
    • Mandatory to be skilled in the following technologies:
      • Visio / Illustrator
      • Microsoft Office
      • XHTML & CSS
      • Photoshop
    • Optional:
      • Morae
      • Flash
      • Prototyping apps/platforms
  • Execute usability best practices and user interface web standards
  • Understanding of web accessibility
  • Cross-disciplined candidates (IxD with project management, business systems analysis, design research, visual design, design technology and information architecture) will be given higher consideration.
  • Candidates with an e-commerce background will be given higher consideration as well.
