We have been retained by our client to hire an Online User Experience Associate in the Northern suburbs of Chicago (60045 zip code). Our client helps customers save time and money by providing them with the right products to keep their facilities up and running. With 2007 sales of over $6 billion, they are a Fortune 500 company and a perennial member of Fortune magazine's Most Admired Companies list. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Primary Function

  • Improve the online customer experience through new features, functionality and design of this client's website.
  • Purpose is to help customers navigate to the right product and solution online and improve their customer satisfaction.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all activities that relate to a site enhancement, which might include:
    • Coordinating appropriate optimization tests.
    • Coordinating feedback from site surveys, customer-facing staff, and customer satisfaction data.
    • Using transactional data to make design decisions, prioritize enhancements, and establish project benchmarks and targets.
    • Conducting usability studies to validate prototypes.
  • Follow user interface best practices in site enhancements or re-design projects.
  • Identify user requirements and work with IT resources to create appropriate documentation.
  • Create user diagrams, wireframes and other documentation necessary to communicate the recommended user experience to internal stakeholders.
  • Work cross-functionally with call center, business owners and IT staff to develop solutions.
  • Manage project related activities with outside vendors.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in user research as it relates to understanding online behavior and needs.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Solid understanding of web design concepts in an e-commerce environment.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with design and project management software tools (ex: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Visio, MS Project).
  • Experience with Flash and Ajax a plus.
  • Ability to interact with technology resources to develop user cases, functional requirements, etc.
  • Experience using qualitative data to deliver enhanced user experience design:
    • usability studies
    • focus groups
    • customer satisfaction studies
    • survey data
  • Experience with Coremetrics or other major web analytics tool.
  • Experience working with outside talent and/or agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work and coordinate with multiple groups, including business owners, product managers, internal/external creative designers, project managers, and software developers.
  • Travel to customers and conferences' is limited.
