Bridgeline Software is seeking a senior level user experience architect to create innovative, usable Web solutions for our customers. The Senior User Experience Architect leads the user-centered design (UCD) effort on any given project in order to design web applications and sites that meet user and business requirements. In this role, your focus is on three aspects of the user-centered design process: conducting user research at the start of a project engagement; defining well-structured and intuitive user experiences via wireframes or prototypes, etc.; and conducting formal and informal usability tests. In leading projects, you'll work closely with our customers while applying our UCD process to various applications, at various stages of development, in a variety of vertical markets.
Essential Job Functions
- Requirements-gathering via stakeholder and user interviews and other user-centered research methods
- Audience, functional, and task analyses to determine and prioritize user workflows and logical process/transaction flows
- User interface design to provide appropriate user experience and interface functionality
- Process analysis, optimization, and documentation (may take the form of any of the following: Competitive analyses, content analyses, and/or reverse engineering, etc.)
- Site or application architecture and navigation: (may take the form of site diagrams, wireframes, and/or prototypes)
- Formal usability testing with participants (may be conducted via remote sessions, or on-site at the customer's facilities, or in a lab setting), as well as less formal usability evaluations (heuristic evaluations or expert reviews, etc.)
- Work closely with multiple internal teams and disciplines, design/creative, back-end development, project management, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- 5+ years experience interacting with clients and users in order to develop information architectures for web applications of varying levels of complexity
- In-depth knowledge and experience in user-centric design processes, such as contextual inquiry
- Strong knowledge of basic usability principles and practices
- Strong knowledge of best practices for interaction design
- Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
- Ability to prepare for and interview both stakeholders and users
- Ability to analyze stakeholder and user needs, and define strategies for meeting them
- Ability to organize of large bodies of information into a logical, easy-to-use series of interfaces that meet stakeholder and user needs
- Familiarity with multiple usability approaches, formal and informal
- Ability to prepare, conduct, analyze, and report on formal and informal usability tests
- Strong client-facing skills; Strong presentation and negotiation skills
- Ability to provide sales support
- Proficiency in one or more tools, such as Visio, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, or Illustrator is a plus. Coding skills are not required, but an understanding of technical requirements and limitations is key.
