We have an exciting contract opportunity for an experienced Principal Usability Engineer - Business/User/Process Analyst in the San Diego area.

Description:

The ideal candidate will Lead the effort to define the strategic roadmap for our client's Enterprise Employee Portal. Working onsite, the candidate should have experience in the definition and design of user interface for an Enterprise Employee Portal and enabling a portal in a portlet enabled environment. The successful candidate has generalist and diverse skills in all areas of usability engineering, but also considers themselves an expert in the areas of Business, User, and Process Analysis. This person will possess experience and expertise in the following areas:

  • Analyzing and defining a strategic functionality and functional roadmap of the full suite of services, functionalities, and capabilities employee users expect from an Enterprise Employee Portal.
  • Ability to help our client prioritize the functional roadmap into a realistic user centered implementation plan.
  • Help guide stakeholders in understanding and documenting the organizational changes including Intranet governance models.
  • Ability to provide our client with expertise in evaluating the comprehensive and holistic end user community, the needs of that community and the segmentation of that community via traditional mental modelling.
  • Expertise in personalization and customization aspects provided in a portal-enabled environment as well as the system characteristics that enable a personalized user experience.
  • Experience with Enterprise Content Management solutions, preferably Documentum, and Enterprise Portal Technologies, preferably BEA WebLogic.
  • Exceptional skills in all facets of defining an end user employee experience; from aspects of business analysis, user analysis, and process analysis.

Essential Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is experienced in assessing user needs and measuring the user experience. This person will work with multi-disciplinary team of developers to design internet-based solutions for clients as well as work with clients, strategists, engineers, and other user experience staff to determine content and create a successful solution. The Principal UE may work under the direction of the UE Director, Manager, or Principal UE on an engagement.

  • Conduct needs analyses and user testing efficiently and effectively, draws insightful conclusions and writes up expert reviews·
  • Translate client and user needs into user and functional requirements
  • Understand and practice principles and methodologies of user-centered design
  • Conduct user experiential studies including user profiling, mental modelling, and contextual task analysis
  • Identify users in detail including demographics and psychographic characteristics
  • Conduct usability studies including formal and semi-formal usability testing, and card sorting activities including the design and execution of paper and live questionnaires and interviews
  • Conduct heuristic evaluations
  • Experienced in translating client and user needs into user and functional requirements, including use case definition
  • Determine information architecture, taxonomy, and nomenclature
  • Design site maps/page flow
  • Supplement site maps with page flow and other diagrams effectively
  • Develop wire frames that specify functions and layout
  • Test wire frame to Business Analysis deliverables·
  • Ability to perform competitive landscape and baseline assessments

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Uses research, design specification skills, site evaluation skills, and software tools to deliver effective work products·
  • Works effectively under deadlines in a high pressure environment·
  • Works effectively with clients and other junior and Principal members of the team
  • Welcomes and makes improvements on constructive feedback
  • Performs work under established procedures
  • Demonstrates innovation, insights, and creativity resulting in value added to the client·
  • Designs specifications to user requirements, product styles, etc incorporating client suggestions and web site design principles and encourages staff to do so

Experience:

  • At least 8+ years experience as an usability engineer, non-traditional information architect, or user interface design, designing a variety of technology solutions·
  • Experience managing and mentoring others is necessary·
  • BS / BA in relevant field including Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Liberal or Graphic Arts
  • Consulting experience is required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Visio
