JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Information Architect will design and document site flow and architecture, content organization, navigation, and cross-linking strategies, as well as suggest page structure and/or prioritization of elements on a page based on experience observing users in testing situations and/or industry best practices.
- Based on established site business goals and audience needs and working collaboratively with content strategy, identify site content that is necessary to support both.
- Organize content logically to create exceptional site architecture usability and support business goals.
- Identify calls to action; devise architecture and cross-linking strategies to drive users along in their process and towards calls to action.
- Stay current on industry trends in information architecture, evaluate when and how it is appropriate to apply them to current and upcoming projects.
- Develop and maintain deliverables that document content organization, taxonomies, navigation systems, search systems, registration and purchasing processes, including, but not limited to: Site maps, Wireframes, Scenarios, Process Flows.
- Be familiar with and apply client business requirements and industry regulations to information architecture.
- Participate in the crafting of Usability tests and Customer Insight Research; prepare prototypes and attend test sessions.
- Apply goals of personas and findings from User Research and Usability Testing when designing information architecture.
- Must possess strong communication and presentation skills for both internal and client-facing presentations.
- Coordinate and collaborate with writers, designers, SEO experts and other SMEs to assess content, develop taxonomies, navigation schemas and page element prioritization.
- Familiarity with Usability Heuristics and how to apply them to Information Architectures.
- Critique site architectures on industry best practices and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Map out processes of complex interactive functionality including Web and Flash applications.
- Must possess familiarity with the possibilities and limitations of various technologies such as Flex, Ajax , Action Script, CMS, etc.
- Work with content management system templates.
- Familiar with card sorting, nomenclature testing and all modalities of user tests with the ability to apply learnings from them.
- Asses how client business goals translate into site goals.
- An understanding of templates and how they work to assist site consistency and usability as well as help with ongoing maintenance and production.
- Comprehend intricate database and systems integration needs and communicate those interactions via annotations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2-5 years experience in e-commerce or content site design.
- Experience with the duties described.
- Strong understanding of the Information Architecture resources, research, best practices, experts etc. and the drive to remain current within this fast-evolving field.
- Knows Microsoft Visio, Office, Power Point, Excel, and Adobe Illustrator
- Experience leading the production of testing materials including prototypes (paper and clickable), and scripts as well as experience in translating results into design adjustments that address identified issues/needs.
- Familiarity with the differences in designing for Brand sites, CMS-driven sites, large scale sites, international considerations, accessibility considerations, meta data, search external and internal.
- Agency experience a plus.
- Knowledge of Axure or other dynamic prototyping software desired.
- Experience crafting personas and scenarios.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Factors engineering, Information Architecture, Library Science, HCI, Experience Design, Graphic Design or related field.
