JOB DESCRIPTION:

Homestore is looking for a talented Interaction Designer to join our user experience team.

The Interaction Designer is responsible for helping redefine the interface design and organization of Homestore web products such as REALTOR.com, WelcomeWagon.com, and RENTNET.com, as well as new products coming in 2006. Working closely with a cross-functional team to assess product requirements, the Interaction Designer will define and create site structure, interaction flows, page wireframes, and interface requirements that promote ease of use and a positive user experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates working sitemaps for all projects that will require creative or interface modifications; rough wireframes showing page content and labeling requirements; interaction flow diagrams and use cases for requirements documentation
  • Assists in usability testing of sitemaps, wireframes and paper prototypes
  • Ensures usability best practices as applies to user interaction and information organization
  • Participates in the development of product prototypes for usability testing and proof of concept purposes
  • Works with visual designers to ensure the graphic design is consistent with the interaction requirements and usability best practices
  • Coordinates with creative team, product team and engineering to ensure that the sitemap, flow diagrams and wireframes are properly translated to the live site, and to ensure that the look and feel is consistent with both business requirements and user needs

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years experience in interaction design or user interface design for web applications or high-traffic consumer web sites; experience being an advocate for the user; practical experience working in a user-centered design structure preferred
  • Experience designing and documenting the user experience (use cases, interaction flows, sitemaps, user interface design)
  • Proficient in Visio and HTML editing tools; general understanding of various web technologies and their capabilities
  • Must have a passion for problem solving and outstanding attention to detail
  • Self-starter with strong project management skills; ability to manage workflow and deadlines for multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to sell an idea and back up design decisions with real world data
  • Proven ability to work and coordinate with multiple groups, including designers, technical teams, usability specialists, sales and marketing.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in graphic or information design, library science, psychology, HCI, human factors or related fields required, advanced degree is a plus.
  • Previous experience with usability testing, visual design or prototyping is a plus.
