HP works to understand the world and make ideas happen. Its innovative and exciting Corporate Design organization is responsible for the conceptualization and development of customer-focused new products. HP's Personal Systems Group (PSG) is a fast-growing business unit, with 200% revenue growth year over year for Notebooks alone. Design is recognized within and respected by the business for leading the business and changing them financially. As there are limitations to how much they can differentiate via hardware, they are looking at greater differentiation through experience and interaction and are seeking a passionate Senior Visual User Interface Designer (SUID) to join its growing, award-winning Notebook design team.

The SUID will report to the Director of Design for PSG. He/she will discover and design new user experiences, create interactive design mockups, establish and produce visual assets, and write behavioral documentation needed for proper design implementation. This person will also work closely with Industrial Designers, Human Factor Engineers, and Software Engineers on the team to develop and execute interfaces and experiences that invoke Hewlett-Packard's "Invent" spirit and that contribute to driving HP design attitude and design language across the ecosystem of the Personal Systems Group.

As the UI expert on the team, the SUID will be/have the following:

Superior Hands-On Visual User Interface/Design Skills

  • Able to create visually stunning user experiences for digital media that also integrate seamlessly with hardware
  • An outstanding body of work demonstrating the successful delivery of innovative interface design solutions, including developing standards and guidelines
  • Strong conceptual ability
  • Ideally, the ability to integrate 2D and 3D to create compelling user experiences

Technology Skills

  • Able to work with programmers to make the highly conceptual real
  • Proven skills in developing and deploying software solutions in a Windows specific environment
  • Expert-level knowledge of graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Advanced knowledge using tools such as Flash, Director and/or AfterEffects for developing visual prototypes
  • Knowledge of sound design and production, motion graphics, photography and non-linear video editing is a plus.

Team Leadership and Cross-function Influence

  • Able to effectively drive or support the efforts of multi-disciplinary teams in generating optimum design solutions
  • Able to synthesize customer insights, insights from design and other colleagues, and management objectives and to translate them into actionable design requirements
  • Able to quickly grasp and distill highly complex situations in a very fast-paced environment and balance between conceptual design and technical execution
  • Able to contribute to developing the HP brand by executing user interface design consistently and driving customer experience through product experience
  • Able to provide direction to/guide outside firms or other external resources, as necessary, in the use of standards and guidelines

Qualifications

  • A degree in visual or interaction design, plus strong graphic design skills
  • Minimum 6 years experience in digital media, with at least 2 years as a design lead
