Usability Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Usability Engineer for our top client in Columbus, Ohio. This is a 6-12 month position initially in the client's marketing group. The projects include several publlic facing web sites for millions of users and internal web-based applications used by employees, agents, and other third parties. We currently have 7 UE consultants working for this client.

Candidates should have a background in human factors, user interface design, and usability testing. The Usability Engineers will work through the entire development lifecycle with the goal of creating the most usable enterprise wide applications possible. Candidates will make marketing contacts, conduct requirements analysis, and interact with development teams to understand user needs as well as create a User Interface that meets the requirements. Deliverables can include plans, sketches, conceptual and detailed user interaction specifications, and usability evaluations/tests.

Specific required skills include:

  • Advanced Degree in Cognitive Psychology/Human Factors, Computer Science and/or a degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent skills in human/computer interaction, including an understanding of usability principles and how to apply them.
  • Experience with completing field based studies/research.
  • Demonstrated results showing creativity and innovation.
  • Excellent teaming, facilitation, leadership, and communication skills including listening, synthesizing, and portraying concepts in written forms.
  • Strong analytical ability and skills of abstraction.

Specific job duties will include:

  • Work within a fast-paced development environment for a Fortune 100 company.
  • Work with team members to define user centered design guidelines and deliverables within the overall application development methodology.
  • Prepare wire-frames and information hierarchy/usability recommendations using PhotoShop, Illustrator, and/or HTML.
  • Travel to conduct periodic usability tests/studies.
  • Create reports based on usability tests/studies.
