Senior Human Factors Specialist (Medical Practice)

Insight is looking for an expert senior human factors specialist to work in the medical practice of our Chicago, IL office. While the candidate would work on a variety of exciting consumer and industrial projects as well, the focus of the role will be the healthcare and medical device industry. Insight has worked with some of the best healthcare and medical device companies in the world, including clients like Baxter Healthcare, St. Jude Medical, BD, Johnson & Johnson, and Boston Scientific. Our human factors team is involved in all steps of the design process from product definition through full development, assuring a positive and productive clinician and patient experience.
Responsibilities:
- Represent sound human factors (anthropometrics, biomechanics, cognition) to industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and marketing personnel to ensure product designs are useful, usable, and appropriate
- Plan, organize, and execute a user-centered research process that inspires and informs design and development with meaningful findings and actionable implications
- Participate in research programs to investigate clinician workflow, goals, tasks, and expectations across clinical environments and various disease areas
- Participate in research programs to explore patients¡¯ emotional, cognitive, and psychological needs and beliefs as well as the overall social and environmental context in which healthcare products or services are experienced
- Work with clinicians, patients, and designers to evaluate concepts and existing products on the market for improvement opportunities
Requirements:
- 6+ years of professional experience in related field
- Background in human factors, ergonomics, or medical research, product development, or design is required; experience in business, marketing, product strategy, ethnography, or sociology is beneficial
- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation abilities
- Strong, collaborative interpersonal work style
- Extensive experience with both generative and evaluative research methods
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with drawing or layout programs such as Adobe Illustrator / InDesign; familiarity with video processing and editing software like Adobe Premiere a plus
- Familiarity in database and other data manipulation programs and the capacity to plan and conduct statistical studies a plus
