To provide senior-level user interface design services, which include the analysis of complex user and business workflows and the design and documentation of highly useful, usable, and desirable user interfaces (web or client/server) and that reflect knowledge of the user's tasks, information hierarchy, and usability best practices.

Another key responsibility will be to negotiate and manage Project Management tasks for assigned projects as well as team activities. To provide user interface design support and/or leadership to project teams, which includes project planning and management of User-Centered Design activities.

UI Presentation Quality

Create website design solutions that are innovative and easy to use, navigate, and comprehend by:

  • Working with the business to clarify the mission and vision for our client's web applications.

Providing senior-level user interface design services, which includes:

  • The analysis of complex user and business workflows
  • The design and documentation of highly useful, usable, and desirable user interfaces, which reflect knowledge of the user's tasks, user profiles, information hierarchy, and usability best practices

Negotiating with the Delivery Manager/Project Manager on timelines associated to the design tasks:

  • Creating design solutions that ensure a balance between client-focused design, business requirements, UI design strategies, and divisional and corporate goals/strategies.
  • Applying Company approved User-Centered Design Process to your day-to-day activities. In addition to knowing the required inputs and outputs of the process, also knowing how to apply those inputs to creating your deliverables, the roles of everyone involved, and how to ask the right questions to create quality deliverables.
  • Working closely with the Usability Engineer in supporting a comprehensive usability testing strategy. Assisting the Usability Engineer in the design of usability tests, participating in the usability evaluation of the proposed user interface, and leveraging the test results/report in design activities. Incorporating usability results into design (when needed and approved).
  • Participating in or leading the task of user workflow analysis (current and future) to gain understanding of the user's tasks and behaviors, and reflecting that knowledge in the behavior and structure of the interface.
  • Participating in requirements-gathering efforts and often leading the discussion to map business client needs to user needs.

UI Technical Quality

Recommend scalable and technically viable designs and high-quality design deliverables that perform within standards by:

  • Maintaining awareness of design issues that can cause technical and performance impacts.
  • Working with project teams to devise high-quality design solutions that are technically feasible and adhere to performance standards.
  • Working with the SI development team (and/or UIE) to help solve potential technical design problems. Having designs reviewed by SI development group (and/or UIE).
  • Recommending viable, effective design solutions to support performance-ready screens (fast load times) that follow performance standards and guidelines.
  • Creating detailed User Interface Specifications by adding interaction detail to the wireframe and prototype. Working closely with the Information Designer and Writer to prepare for usability testing, finalizing the specs of the UI design.
  • Documenting the interface design using navigation diagrams, wireframes, and the User Interface Specification. Reviewing the design with the project team.
  • Validating the user interface design of developed applications against UI Specifications and navigation diagrams. Random testing the UI design

Develop a positive, collaborative, team-oriented working environment that efficiently takes advantage of the diverse skills/knowledge of our group by:

  • Building strong relationships and mentoring.
  • Demonstrating basic interpersonal, social, and project leadership skills when iterating design recommendations. Ensuring the project team is aware of all of the project's nuances and familiar with the deliverables and associated deadlines.
  • Effectively communicating (verbally and in writing) with internal/external clients and service providers using appropriate language and tone.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and independent thinking.
  • Proficiency in technical specialties applicable to the level of project assigned.
  • Providing random testing coverage and quality status to the department Project Lead.
  • Participation in status meetings, staff meetings, and monthly 1 on 1s.

Issue Management

Contribute to and support the timely resolution of problems and issues and following SCR reporting guidelines by:

  • Participation during issue resolution meetings, discussions, or activities.
  • Verifying root causes of problems when applicable to design.
  • Tracking identified issues preventing page approval using PVCS Tracker.
  • Escalating risks and issues to project management.
  • Keeping all SCR fields current.
  • Timely daily monitoring and resolution of PVCS for assigned SCRs.

Process Knowledge

Ensure the appropriate level of understanding of, involvement in, and compliance with Kohl's client's methodology by:

  • Understanding Kohl's client's Project Life-Cycle delivery process. Working with the Project Manager to understand the next steps in the process and the level of involvement.
  • Having senior-level knowledge of Kohl's client's User-Centered Design methodology. Clearly and effectively communicating the tasks and activities within the methodology.
  • Producing and using appropriate documentation in a timely manner for any given assignment during the project life cycle.
  • Making suggestions that can be implemented and are aimed at improving the design process and documentation suite being used to create and deliver the completed interface.

Time Management

Effectively manage multiple demands and competing priorities by:

  • Recognizing competing time constraints of peers and effectively managing those into project timelines.
  • Effectively organizing the design project plan.
  • Effectively managing your personal calendar.
  • Helping less experienced team members with time management.
