Are you interested in helping Microsoft deliver an end to end innovative experience with both software and hardware? Are you interested in driving research and design that will define how people interact with and relate to this new product? We're looking for a User Experience Manager to guide the design, research, and user documentation work on a groundbreaking product. You will work as a core member of the leadership team to create a great user experience through design and research. The primary responsibilities will be:
- Leading a user experience team with a vision to create innovate software and hardware product experiences that meet business, project, and design goals.
- Leading the development of process and strategies that enhance the user experience team's contribution to the business, company, and industry.
- Managing and leading a team of industrial designers, interaction designers, user researchers, and user assistance experts
- Identifying and managing consultant resources to augment employee contributions.
- Representing Microsoft's consumer businesses and vision for press and customers.
Qualifications include:
- Strong ability to manage a variety of user experience functions to address innovative new technologies for a combination of hardware and software.
- Sensitivity to the physical, cognitive, emotional, environmental, social, and cultural needs of the people who use consumer products.
- Ability to work cross-discipline with software and hardware engineering functions and marketing functions.
- Ability to effectively negotiate conflict and persuade others on the merits of a design or other user experience solution.
- Ability to adapt leadership style to changes in business, product, organization, or individual needs.
- Ability to assess, prioritize and make trade-offs against business, technical, and user constraints.
- Ability to prioritize between investments in new opportunities vs. sustaining work.
- Ability to initiate strategic planning activities that lead to the adoption of enhanced processes, new products, or changes in staffing strategy.
- Experience designing software user interface solutions for Microsoft Windows and related software products preferred.
- Experience with user interface prototyping tools like Director, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and related applications. Experience with print and web design is a plus.
- A BA/BS or greater degree in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Psychology, Human Factors, or equivalent is required. MA/MS or greater is preferred
- A minimum of 5 years experience designing high-quality products for high-volume, global markets within a team environment.
- A minimum of 5 years experience leading and managing teams of designers, researchers, or equivalent user experience functions.
- A user experience portfolio showing:
- Strong creative and problem solving skills.
- Examples of design direction, creative process, research strategy, or equivalent user experience accomplishment.
- A presentation of work coming from the teams that the candidate managed, directed, and led.
