As well as being the world's largest supplier of database software, Oracle also develops tools providing an integrated development environment with end-to-end support for modeling, developing, debugging, optimizing, and deploying Java applications and Web services. As a usability engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the overall productivity and usability of this product line.

Working with multidisciplinary teams, the Usability Engineer will plan, design and execute usability research on Oracle's software development applications to gather front end design requirements and to support design activities through out the product development cycle. Responsibilities will include identifying user requirements, validating user models, performing usability evaluations on released products, rough code and prototypes, and communicating with development team to communicate results of usability activities and to evangelize UCD. Usability Engineer will collaborate closely with interaction designers and visual designers to provide team based support to product teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, Develop Materials, & Conduct a variety of Usability Study studies at all stages of UCD cycle (user requirements gathering, iterative development, and released product bench marking).
  • Choose appropriate methodologies to identify issues within released products, beta code, prototypes and conceptual models.
  • Create Reports and Presentations for communicating the results of usability studies to product teams.
  • Work with UI Designers to devise solutions to problems discovered through usability activities
  • Use a range of usability methodologies from heuristic analysis to CIF Tests to *Contextual Observation.
  • Interface with lab administrative staff to run and maintain 8 Usability Labs
  • Help maintain department web sites
  • Works with other usability engineers to develop and maintain methodology guidelines

Qualifications:

  • At least a MSc. in Cognitive, Experimental or Industrial Psychology, Human Factors or Human Computer
  • Interaction with a solid foundation in experimental design, behavioral statistics, and human information processing theory
  • Min 5 years, Human Factors job experience in an industrial setting in the areas of gathering user requirements, scenario development, conducting usability evaluations, and questionnaire/survey design required.
  • Knowledge of database technologies and programming knowledge are highly desirable.
  • Strong Writing Skills a plus
