Perficient, Inc., a leading end-to-end solution consulting firm in the central United States, is currently seeking senior level and above User Experience Specialists with strong usability and user interface design/information architecture skills and, preferably also, business analysis skills for its Minneapolis and St. Louis offices, and our other offices.

(At Perficient, the roles of Business Analyst and User Experience Specialist are combined into one role. Successful candidates possess both traditional business analysis skills AND usability/Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) skills.) Perficient's user-centered approach to design and development is a proven differentiator for the company.

Our senior, lead, and solution architect level User Experience Specialists work as leads in multidisciplinary team environments with client teams, project managers, other business and user experience specialists, visual designers and technical teams to develop/analyze high-level and detailed user requirements for projects using a variety of user input/feedback techniques. They facilitate usability and user-interface design/information architecture activities and techniques, including such things as contextual inquiry sessions for gathering/analyzing and current/competitor solution usability tests to gather/analyze user requirements; task analyses and card sorting sessions, low-, medium-, and high-fidelity prototyping; iterative formative usability testing sessions coupled with prototype improvement; competitor and benchmark (summative) usability testing; heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, field studies, and so forth. They also analyze, report, and present results of these activities.

The senior+ User Experience Consultant sometimes serves as the project manager and is also the primary liaison between the team and the client. Other responsibilities include assisting with RFP responses/proposals, proposal presentations; and helping to shape Perficient's user-centered approach to design and development; teaching and mentoring.

In addition to user requirements, UE Specialists also gather/analyze business requirements and rules, and make intelligent recommendations/decisions when merging business, user, and technical requirements. They translate requirements into design. They often participate in the full design/development project lifecycle.

Experienced UE Specialists should have from 5+ years of experience in a working environment, preferably in a consulting environment. They should have skills in:

  • Business analysis, such as business, technical, and user requirements gathering/analysis/documentation and system/component test planning/execution.
  • Usability engineering principles/concepts and techniques, and UCD. Knowing when and how to engage users in a development process that interweaves user input/feedback techniques throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Usability testing planning and facilitating, analyzing data, and applying the results to designs
  • Conducting heuristic evaluations, contextual inquiry sessions, both formative and summative usability testing, field studies, etc.
  • User-interface architecture and design/information and/or interaction architecture
  • Working as a member of a project team as well as independently when necessary to deliver technical solutions
  • Understanding of the technical feasibility of design decisions.

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in usability engineering, psychology, human factors, information architecture, cognitive psychology or related field, or computer science with emphasis in HCI, or demonstrated proficiency and experience in the field of usability/human factors/HCI and user-interface design/information architecture.
  • Or, MBA, or demonstrated proficiency and experience in business analysis, project management, etc., willing and eager to be mentored in usability and user-centered design.
  • Excellent team player
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel. (Travel could be 25% and is not consistent. Some engagements require it; most do not.)
