This position will report to the Vice President Shared Engineering Services and will be located in Mt. View, California.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for providing strategy direction for User Research, User Interface and Graphic Design departments (also known as User Centered Design).
  • Mentor technical proficiency of User Centered Design.
  • Anticipate and makes significant changes to improve products and/or department processes.
  • Responsible for setting and achieving department goals through strong leadership and department strategy.
  • Establish annual budget and manage projects and programs against it.
  • Act as User experience strategy visionary for Symantec.

SCOPE

Leads the operations and activities of a major functional area, recommending strategy. Requires in-depth functional knowledge and thorough company knowledge. Requires cross-functional communication and negotiation. Makes decisions and implements policies that affect areas of the company outside their own functional area. Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures operations' effective achievement of objectives.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible factors. Exercises judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Ensure budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements. Decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or company operations.

LEADERSHIP/ SUPERVISION

May report to the Sr. Director or directly to the VP. Has several Manager/Snr. Manager level direct reports.

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL CONTACTS

Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers.

PREFERRED EDUCATION

MS/MBA/MA degree or equivalent related experience.

RELATED EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • 12+ years
  • Excellent command of User Experience methods (across research and design)
  • Excellent problem-framing skills
  • Excellent team leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Strong sense of process and the ability to innovate on process tools and conventions
  • Ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams.

MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE DESIRED

6-8 years of direct supervision highly desireable.
